I’m going to answer myself here, because I figured it out and can’t seem to delete my post.

It was just a case of making sure I selected all the clips to be rendered in the Delivery tab.

Andrew: not being able to do that is exactly the bug/problem we’re facing here.

The source settings is greyed out when right clicking on the clip in the Project window.

Never had this problem before the latest release (CC 2015).

Exactly the same problem. And it’s an issue because I have a preset that I want to copy to a large number of clips all at once.

Ha, yes. It really is that simple. I seem to remember using an older version of Davinci where it was much harder to share projects, but perhaps I was mistaken even then.

Is that 500gig file one single video file? That sounds extraordinarily large for a single clip.

Do you know what setting the DNxHD is?

Because DNxHD 120, 23.98fps, 1920×1080, you would be looking at about 10 hours to fill 500gb! (I’m getting this figure from the Formats app, by the way, so don’t know how accurate it is: https://grayhourmedia.com/formats/)

If that’s the case, I would definitely think about two things:

1. Breaking the clip down into smaller chunks (maybe an hour or so each)
2. Making lower res/bitrate proxy files to work from

It’s possible you’ve turned Snapping off. Usual shortcut is ‘s’ to toggle it on/off. Or you can click the little magnet in the tools in the top left of the timeline.

Or else, it’s possible that you’ve turned off ‘targeting’ for the track you’re trying to snap to. Make sure the track name (‘V1’, ‘A3’ etc.) has a blue background behind it’s name – click on the name to toggle that on/off.

The concept involved here is ‘motion tracking’. You can now do this a certain amount in Premiere Pro: https://nofilmschool.com/2014/07/masking-tracking-premiere-pro-larry-jordan

But you can do far more with it in After Effects: https://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/using/tracking-stabilizing-motion-cs5.html

There are plenty of tutorials online, but the essential principle is that you analyse a section of the footage (for example someone’s head) to get motion data, and then you can attach something to that data, so that it stays in line with them.

I have discovered this is a known bug in the latest version of Premiere (8.2) – https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1707832?q=EDL

I’ve got around it by bringing the sequence via XML into a previous build of Premiere and exporting EDL from there.

Let’s hope they fix the bug soon…
