It does start transcoding before you finish capturing, but it is supposed to be smart enough to wait until it has the resources to do it, but I’d follow Steve Gotz idea and it should get you by.

But, if you ever tried importing a complex premiere project into AE 6.5, it didn’t take long to see all kinds of problems. I assume it is better now. Also, you didn’t address the encore dynamic link issues.

well for one thing, and this is encore related but it still kind of applies, I won’t be doing wedding photo montages in premiere anymore because of how good the slideshow feature is in encore. But in speaking about Premiere I think that it has a lot of worthwhile features (obviously not everyone does the same stuff), but here are my favorites.
JKL editing is much more responsive.
Image pans that couldn’t be played back on a dual xeon 3.6 now playback realtime in premiere 2.0 on a pentium d 830. WOW
Multi cam (even though I won’t be doing a lot of it, the times that I do have to do it are going to be way easier).
Native HDV editing
Ability to import Premiere HDV timelines into After Effects
Clip Notes (although they need to make it so you can easily change the presets)
The higher bit color rendering is going to be good
Playback actually seems much smoother to me (I invested in a OpenGl 2.0 card though, so maybe that’s the secret)
Being able to use dynamic link from AE 7.0 is going to save me a ton of time in premiere and encore.
But, once more, everyone is different, so have fun with 1.51

Also, one huge question I have, is can you use dynamic link to import a premiere pro project into after effects and then use dynamic link to take that into encore without rendering first (that way you could have a really complicated DVD use encore for transcoding and also have it do batch transcoding)

from my experience with premiere pro 1.5, if the system for any reason has a slow down during capture of HDV it results in the problem you are describing. On a few projects I had to go back and capture those same clips again, the second time, there wasn’t a problem (not on the tape). That was with a 2.8 ghz P4, with a dual xeon 3.6 I’ve never had a problem and with the P4 extreme edition dual core I’ve never had a problem. Just fyi

As far as i can tell from talking to adobe, the only difference is the steadymove plugin (which I personally think isn’t worth it since after effects can do the same thing).
Their webpage says that they include keylight and cycore (even though last time you didn’t get cycore with the education version).

Most likely it is not anything to do with Premiere, but if you are using an Nvidia display card you need to go into your preferences and turn of “Auto-Select” on the full screen section.

If I remember right, you can highlight a group of items on the time line and have them be scaled right there, but I’m not quite sure if it is the same thing as what Steve said. Check it out and let us know.

Well if you want the user to be able to hit the “Angle” button on their DVD remote and switch to a different angle (basically switch to a different video track, but with the same audio) then you need the ability to have mulitple video tracks and encore can’t do that. On a side note, I did a project with Encore 2.0 over the weekend, and I love the program even more. It is at least 5x better than encore 1.5. The slideshow feature is great. The flowchart was way more useful than I imagined. The program as a whole is great, and once I actually get the production studio (I was just working with the demo) I’m going to enjoy using the ability to import unrendered after effects projects for motion menus.

Encore is very powerful, If you know photoshop, then you’ll love the compatability with encore, plus if you know/own after effects, then I wouldn’t consider a different dvd app, unless you have to have multi angle material. That is the main thing that encore is lacking.
