From what I gather, the new Dynamic Link technology in Production Studio provides interaction of unrendered elements between some applications. Can someone explain which applications and workflows Dynamic Link works with? For example, does it only work with Premiere Pro timelines into After Effects? How about vise-versa – can After Effects comps be used in Premiere Pro? What are the workflow options between all other Production Studio apps?

Also, one huge question I have, is can you use dynamic link to import a premiere pro project into after effects and then use dynamic link to take that into encore without rendering first (that way you could have a really complicated DVD use encore for transcoding and also have it do batch transcoding)

Well you were able to bring a premiere project into after effects with AE 6.5 and Premiere pro 1.5, so that is nothing new. From what I understand, the new thing is that you can now bring in an AE comp into a premiere timeline without having to render out to file. What this means is that if you have an edit based on AE projects, you can assemble them in premiere, then make your changes in AE and it will automatically update. No wasting HD space on more renders or having to wait for the renders from AE each time.

But, if you ever tried importing a complex premiere project into AE 6.5, it didn’t take long to see all kinds of problems. I assume it is better now. Also, you didn’t address the encore dynamic link issues.

You can also use metadata that is embedded in the media file itself, to place keywords, author info etc. By attaching the same keywords to diffrent sets of shots, you can create “favorites folders” within Adobe Bridge, that allow you to call up sets of shots without having to either move or copy them on to different folders on your harddrive. It is also a pretty cool media file browser. I would still like to know from someone if the any of the PPro logging notes, aside from the file name, can be somehow automatically transferrred to the metadata categories in Bridge.

I attended the Adobe Production Studio Tour last week in San Francisco. Their demo of the Dynamic Link capabilities was very impressive with many new things that were not possible before. However, during the Q&A session, an Adobe product manager said that the DL feature is only available when you purchase the Production Studio package or upgrade that package. It does NOT work if you purchase or upgrade individual products, for example upgrading to just PPro 2 and AE7. DUH!?!
