Not with Long-GOP footage. Only intra-Frame footage (DVCPro HD and AVC-Intra). Great encode times with those codecs.

Look into Presto from RedGiant Software. Works with both Premiere and FCP. Could make your edit go faster.

Not the correct workflow. You need to convert your footage with Compressor or use Nattress Standards Conversion.
