So far you have taken the easy way to capture. Now you want to be organized with your footage so you can find a clip very easily. In order to do that, you will need to log and capture each individual clip. Logging your individual clips allows you to be as specific as you want to be. Enter as much information as you want. Now when you you need to find a clip in an instant, you can find it instantly and put it in your timeline. What you are doing is spending a little more time capturing your footage rather than spending a lot more time editing and searching through your footage.
You can always subclip your large capture one clip file but that is not as efficient as logging your clips.

There is no easy way to edit m2v. In fact, you can not. Re-edit and export the new sequence.

If you have multiple computers you can use QMaster. Read up on QMaster. Keep in mind you will need multiple FCS licenses to take advantage of it.

Just restart the computer and see what happens. I’ve seen this before.

Without connecting the camera to the computer, play back the tape and see if you see blocks. If you see blocks, it’s the tape. If not, restart your computer and try again.

Unless the deck gives you an error code, you are 99% safe to say the deck is fine.
I have over 20 years experience with all deck formats.

Depends on where you are located. Is the deck still under warranty?
In the Chicago area we have a few very good repair facilities.
Troubleshooting the deck. First try a head cleaning tape. Second put in another tape (non critical footage) in the deck. If it eats the tape, you have a problem.
Was the tape a Full Size DVCAM, Small DVCAM or a Mini DV tape? I’m guessing it was a mini DV tape. Over the past 8 years, I have encountered only 1 bad full size DVCAM tape. No bad small DVCAM tapes. Personally, I have never had any bad mini DV tapes but I have heard horror stories from others.
