Don’t have trapcode, just what came with after effects 6.5

I think I figured it out. Was looking in the book and it really didn’t explain it very well.

I just tried the preset myself and can’t figure it out. chose a layer, went to effects and presets, animation presets, text, animate in, typewriter, animator 1 & double clicked on it. (didn’t see it do anything). went to effects drop down menum, and clicked apply preset. Doesn’t show up anywhere on timeline. Now what?

since all my system files and more are on drive 1, there is little room 20gb, drive 2 has about 50gb left, and drive 3 I just put in is 300gb and barely used. I figured if I put Vegas and AE on the drive 1, there probably would be no room left, and very slow

Yeah, I have three drives. Drive one (system drive), drive 2 (drive where Vegas is) ,and Drive 3 ( where files are that pertain to veg files, practice files, and some project files. I just thought that sometimes I notice that files somehow get put in : I/documents and settings/steve edwards/my documents. (which I: is my main drive) seems like my video clips along with a avi.sfk file (whatever that is) ends up there. Maybe I have not assigned them right.

I copied the tutorial and watched the movie. I get the start a new project, create a new comp,apply the text, and resize it. I create a solid and do all that. Okay. I create another comp and call it wind. I create another solid. ( this is where I get confused when it says, “mask it off and animate for about 2 seconds”.
Do you drag any of these down to the timeline? And can you use a picture to blow away instead of text? If so, where do you slide in the picture, or substitute the pic for what step? -
first website says it’s been discontinued, and the second one says “the cow can’t find it’s way to the pasture”. I guess that means it could not find it. I am new to this and usually need the step by step instructions, or close to it.

where did you find a tutorial on this? and is there a way to create the effect like the comercial about the car where the car hauler is going down the street, and the cars on it all blow away like dust.

Is there a way to create this in 6.5? I know that the effects are called something slightly different.
