.mov is only a container, if the compression is still mp4 then it won’t help, however I don’t have enough experience with the camera to be definitive. I’ve got a top spec 2015 i7 Macbook Pro and I still use Proxy most of the time when editing any 4K just because it’s much less compute intensive.

Any more these days, most productions I deal with were shot with a multitude of cameras, each with their own log, pseudo-log, or raw format/look. The only one I trust is Arri and their Log-C. Even there, you still need to tweak. Most of these require manual grading, because LUTs, AI (whatever), simply don’t work.

Probably, that’s a very low spec Mac for playing back compressed 4K, probably best to use a proxy workflow.

Perhaps FCPX users are reluctant to start discussions on the FCPX forum because it used to be the Technique forum. The old Final Cut Pro forum used to be fantastic, great user discussions and problem solving.

Since the last major update to FCPX I’ve completely stopped using PPRo completely as the updated FVPX interface was good enough for me.
