[Shane Ross] “Sorry, I’ve been a mac fan and mac user for 30 years, and when the MacPro tube came out…my confidence in Apple was shaken. iTunes fiasco making it worse, the FCX bomb (IMHO…mainly how it handled the transition and announcement)…it’s just going downhill.

For you perhaps, for many other people definitely not, would not switch to PC and Windows if you paid me, I love living in my Apple walled garden 🙂

Yes as a Mac user I KNOW the iMac Pro will be more expensive, probably offer less bang per buck than other systems, not be upgradeable, hasn’t got a touch screen etc etc etc. But honestly I really don’t care. Mac’s have served me well for my last 10 years of editing and this iMac Pro and the potential for a new Mac Pro have got me excited again, just as FCPX re-invigourated my interest in editing.

Can’t wait to get one 🙂

“Who said anything about using a touch screen for video editing? You folks keep mentioning video editing as opposed to Illustrator and Photoshop.”

Yes it’s odd that, people talking about editing, on a video editing forum 🙂

[Tom Sefton] “Exactly. One of the 2013 Mac pros that we have was rendering a job for a week at a time. The whole project took over 15 weeks just for encoding.”

    Crikey!

Looks great, is this why Simon is noticeably absent from our band of merry posters?

[andy patterson] “can Apple improve the user experience of OS X or will OS X continue to use a Windows 95 paradigm in 2018?

    Utterly laughable comment

Surface Studio looks really good, but can you imagine using Adobe’s fiddly, twirldown interfaces on a touch device?

[Tom Sefton] “No matter how cheap the hardware, I would never switch from FCPX and apple to PC and Edius/Resolve.”

Yep, cost difference between PC’s and Macs and even benchmarks are pretty irrelevant for me as long as FCPX performs well and is reliable and so far it has been.

[Bernard Newnham] “So – a Matrox Digisuite with a Windows NT built round it. That first machine build was really scary and was physically tricky.”

I made a couple of those, I really liked the Digisuite Cards, especially on those infrequent times when Matrox drivers worked properly
