Thanks Gary,
Yes, the wireless access point would be a problem. I’ll have just enough room in the cockpit for the Ki Pro and an HDW-S280 as a backup. Besides, we have more than enough RF floating around in there already.
I love my I/O HD….I can’t wait to add the Ki Pro. I’m sure that MANY of us have been hoping for this unit for several years !
cheers,

Great Jeremy,
Thanks a bunch….questions answered !
Now….about that June ship date….any further rumblings from Aja about what PART of June ? <**>
I have a large project early in June that would be sooo much better with the Ki Pro. If it’s a matter
of a week or two….I might delay it. So if Aja has any idea of an actual delivery date, I sure hope they’ll
leak a little hint here and there.take care,

Thanks Jeremy,
I probably didn’t ask that question clearly enough….
I really need to know if I can PREVENT the Ki Pro from jumping into record when it sees incoming moving time code. I want to feed the Ki Pro continuous timecode from an external generator, while being able to control the start, stop, and record functions using just the front panel “transport” buttons.
(we’ll be using it in a small helicopter…no room for a laptop or other devices)
You mentioned that the front panel will show timecode, but is it just echoing what it’s seeing at the TC input connector, or is it actually displaying what’s being recorded to the file ? Let me rephrase that for clarity> If I’m feeding the Ki Pro time-of-day timecode all the time, will the front panel show me timecode only when I’m recording, or is it just going to continuously display what’s coming in from the external generator ?
And also, what kind of indication does the Ki Pro give you regarding remaining record time on the hard drive module ?
thanks,

May 31, 2008 at 3:46 am in reply to: Io HD realtime down-convert of 24P HD to 29.97 SD ?I’d love to try 23.98 direct from the camera…but I do about 90% of my shooting from a cramped helicopter (using a Sony f950 inside a Cineflex system) and there’s just not enough room in the
cockpit for a laptop and the IO HD. We need a bigger helicopter <**>I’m still just marveling at how good the Pro Res HQ looks, considering that it’s like 10% of the
file size of uncompressed HD. Radical. I can’t wait to see how it holds up in color correction
and matte work. Now, if they could just squeeze an Aja HD10MD3 into the IO HD case….

Thanks very much for the concise answer ! It’s not a problem for my workflow….I just got the unit
yesterday and wanted to make sure nothing was wrong with it.And hey, that ProRes HQ output looks AMAZING ! …very hard to tell the difference from the original
HDCAM field master.Nice work Aja.

May 30, 2008 at 5:09 am in reply to: Io HD realtime down-convert of 24P HD to 29.97 SD ?OK.
According through the manual all of the outputs (including the down-converted ones) should be active
all of the time….so I’m stumped too. I’ll wait to hear back from you on that before I flash the firmware. Thanks for helping tonight…..gotta go to sleep now but I’ll check in tomorrow.

May 30, 2008 at 3:34 am in reply to: Io HD realtime down-convert of 24P HD to 29.97 SD ?Thanks Jeremy,
Yes, I’ve already done that and control panel is showing the downconvert icon in the path to the
analog output. …Still getting garbage out.I also tried setting my secondary digital output to downconvert to 525i29.97 and am getting strange things out there as well, monitoring with a Panasonic BT-LH900.
The primary HD-SDI output at 1080sf23.98 looks perfectly normal.
This all happening when I’m just trying to monitor my input signal using “input passthrough”. If I capture a clip and drop it in a 23.98 Pro Res HQ timeline, ALL of the outputs look great on playback and the analog SD output does have 2:3 pulldown.
So, does the downconversion only work during playback, or should it work on input passthrough as well ?
thanks

Actually, I just found, on Ken Stone’s website, an application called “Carbon Copy Cloner”
by Mike Bombich which will do just what I need. Thanks again for the advice Boris and David.Steve Cassidy

Excellent advice David…thank you. That will give me a nice stable place to return to
if things go poorly. Is there an “Apple Approved” way to do it….or should I just install another internal h.d.
and copy everything over to it ?Steve Cassidy
