The DV or HDV choice is strictly related to tape capture. If you aren’t capturing from tape, then it’s meaningless.

I’ve found that when I do this, and then create a new sequence from a media clip, the timeline window doesn’t open at the bottom of my screen, necessitating that I reset my Workspace. A minor hassle, but saves a little time and aggravation.

Premiere Pro doesn’t use a specific project setting or config depending on media. That come when you create the sequence. Simply let Premiere create an initial sequence at project creation at whatever setting it offers, then create another sequence by dragging one of your media files onto the ‘New Sequence’ button. Premiere will create the sequence to the exact specs that you need for that media. You can then delete the initial sequence that Premiere created at Project start.

I guess I’m behind the times in the GPU world. I’ve always been under the impression that the Quadro line was considered the powerhouse GPU, better suited for editing and such. I have the Quadro 4000 as you do Tom. Is the Quadro line losing favor to this new GeForce line?
I remember just a few years ago that we were cautioned against a card that was advertised for ‘gaming’ being used in editing, because the GPU demands for each platform were radically different. Now I read the new GeForce descriptions, and I see ‘gaming’ several times.

Jacob Rosenberg, CTO and Director at Bandito Brothers, gave a wonderful seminar at NAB last month describing their process on ‘Act of Valor’. They actually cut the film on Avid, then transferred the project to Premiere Pro because of it’s ability to better represent color space using native files than either Avid or FCP could with their respective transcodes, therefore enabling a better experience and result in grading.

Not sure why Mercalli is holding you up. If you apply it to a proxy, then it will also be there when you replace the proxies with originals.
