This has always been such a grey area, and I love these posts, always hoping that something more definitive will come out in one.

One thing you can definitely count on – if you use client directed copyrighted music in ANYTHING, when the hammer comes down, IF it comes down, your client will claim total innocence and the onus will be on you.

Hadn’t even noticed, because up until that one pic everything is geared toward MPEG2-DVD. Strange that they would put an incorrect screen grab in such a tutorial, but then again, it IS UCLA.????

My first attempt at a solution would be to uninstall and reinstall Encore. Also, if you have some older MPEG2-DVD files to try importing, might try that to see if you can isolate the issue to Encore. If the older files import without issue, it may be a factor of the current project’s encodes somehow causing the problem.

You could also try exporting from Adobe Media Encoder rather than from Premiere, or even encoding an AVI to see if that will import into Encore.

[Mike Slawin] “using PPCC with Encore CS6”

Not sure how you are attempting this, as there is no availability of dynamic link between Encore CS6 in any version of Premiere Pro above CS6.

Here’s a good explanation of the process –

August 19, 2017 at 10:40 pm in reply to: Mini DV Tapes to Premiere CC

Had an opportunity last week to dust off some MiniDV tapes of old to use for a project. I was fearful after reading many posts such as yours over the last few years, sure that Firewire tape ingest was deprecated so much in Premiere that it just wouldn’t be possible. Lo and behold, I pulled out our cheap old JVC camera which we had kept after selling off all of our decks, plugged it in and started ingesting like the old days! Premiere saw the camera and had full controlled of it.

Now, we’re Windows based, and I’ve noticed that many of the Firewire connectivity issues I’ve read about were on Mac’s, so….

“And yes, we are working towards a PC version in the near future, all being well.”

Wow! Never thought I’d hear those words regarding a FX Factory plug in. I’ll be your first purchase!

    Grrrr…

I was hoping that you wouldn’t post ‘Hawaiki Keyer’, because, y’know…Windows.

[Shane Ross] “You talking about the MEDIA BROWSER window? Hmmm…shouldn’t do that.”

Not supposed to, but I just noticed on a project that it did it as well. Shot a speaker that ended up being 2 spanned clips, and importing the entire folder via Media Browser generated 2 duplicate clips in the bin.

You could try Belle Nuit Subtitler. They have a Mac version, and they can accept SubStation Alpha files.
