Try the “Slit Scan” filter on just about any footage you have…

    Kev-

I missed your seminar in Seattle but caught you at the SeaFCPUG about a month ago…

On a related note… how do you suggest monitoring the audio from an HDV timeline if I do not yet have any kind of a gfx card (ie Kona et al)…. ? Is there any way to do this other than the optical or 1/8″ outputs on the Mac. Of course, if it were plain old DV I would go through a DV deck…but HDV doesnt work that way except on Print to tape.. I plan to do a lot of off-line HDV editing for awhile until I can afford to buy a Kona2 (which is what we use here at work) and will use the Mac outputs unless there is a better solution.

Any speaker recommendations? dvcreators touts the Edirol speakers as being good enough studio monitors, others have recommended a slightly more expensive set of Behringer B2031As

If I go out of the Mac it will downconvert to 44.1 right?

    Thx

    Bob –

FYI I have done that already and yes – it works. However I should not HAVE to do this and it WAS WORKING fine for many months without doing this. The reason I am trying to get it to work without running external sync into it is that I was getting strange playback issues on occasion from the deck (during playbck the deck would occasionaly “hiccup” and anything encoded or dubbed would have a glitch in it) and the Panasonic rep suggested that I DISCONNECT EXTERNAL SYNC into the deck for awhile to see if that helped. By the way the deck was also serviced in the last 6 months with heads replaced.

    Thanks for your response.

  • I am experiencing a similar problem using the DVCPROHD codec. I am using a dual G5 running Tiger. My footage was out of sync by four frames. I talked with AJA support and they said that it is a known problem with this codec and they are working towards fixing it. In the meantime I was given a beta version of their newset driver (1.1.3) I installed it and now the footage only goes out of sync on very long captures, like 20 minutes or so. A shorter capture appears to be in sync. When I capture using uncompressed the sync is fine. So I dont really have a solution for you but you’re not alone either.
