  • Actually just found a much better and more useful bit of conversion software ‘Wondershare video converter platinum’ This software is perfect for working round and re-converting your HDV3 codec files. you can also open up multiple instances of the program too so you can render multiple files at once. This has saved me a lot of time and a few tears i can say.

Just thought i’d pass on the info for when the same problem happens to someone else

I feel a little happy for beating apple there 😉

    Thanks everyone for your help

  • Hi John,

Thanks for your help but after all night downloading video converters and reading forums i think i’ve found a solution. The problem itself it turned out was that FCP encodes the files as a HDV 3 codec wich essentially ties it to Mac’s only. it would of made sense for me to go find a mac and rexport the footage or the timeline as an xml file so i could bring it into premiere but as that isnt an option i’ve had to work around it (much to my ‘delight’) As it seems a program called ‘Any video converter’ seems to do exactly what it says on the tin albeit a bit slowly but its just what im going to have use for now. Thanks for your time though

Hope this helps anyone else in the same situation as myself

  • Hi Jeff,

Thanks for helping but no luck i’m afraid. because i’ve got the latest version of quick time (not Pro) pro res should already be installed as it keeps telling me when i try to install it. as for the ‘info’ bar it doesnt give me any relevant data. oddly enough the files play in VL media player and in total video converter but when i try to export them in it i either get a watermark or the image looks like its been through a mincer. is there any chance i might need a HDcam codec for windows or something similar, either that or is it apples way of making you upgrade to quicktime pro?

thanks for your help and your time though
