First off, congratulations on your major award 🙂

I think it would be funny to purchase it and display it. We have a trophy case and as a joke one of our vendors put a rodeo trophy they got at a thrift shop in our case. One day a client asked me what the rodeo trophy was for. I of course had no idea what they where talking about. So we walked over the the trophy case and there it was front and center. We both had a good laugh.

December 11, 2012 at 8:57 pm in reply to: Test editing during job interview

When I hire someone I rarely look at their resume. I’m into results. At one point we asked people to rate their FCP skills 1 – 10 and everyone was a 10. When we had them cut something for us it was easy to see what number they really where. I think a test run is a great idea. The news station I worked at for a while did it, the company I now work for did it and still does. I guess that means I passed the test.

But really, I’m looking at your personality. This gives us a chance to interact and see if we get along. Our company is way to small to have employees fighting. I think the fact that everyone who works at Lone Peak Productions really likes each other and gets along helps out on the super late nights and for getting things done.

    Go knock em dead!

  • I had to capture a Beta tape a few months ago and forgot how to do it. We set up a computer in our server room to capture from our decks. I think that seems to work much better. All of our edit bays our connect so you can access the footage from any other room.

December 10, 2012 at 11:30 pm in reply to: Finding Full Time Work

I think it is much easier to send out an e-mail then make a phone call and harder to show up at the company then make a phone call. Walking in and personally introducing yourself will separate you from everyone else…that already doesn’t have a connection at the place. Once you get a connection ask who they think you should visit and ask if you can use their name. Much easier to to get through to someone when you can give them a name of someone they trust. Best of luck and I hope you get a great date out of all of this as well.

Also look for internships. They are great since you will gain real world experience that you don’t get in school and if they like you and if a job opens up chances are you’ll get it. Plus you will be able to gain access to the people they know in the industry that might be looking for a job. Best of luck.

Looks like a fun project. I wouldn’t bother with C4D. Still photos cut in layers like Mark talked about is cheaper and looks more realistic. If you have AE the keyer in that program is amazing!

A lot of the screen capture software will record a bigger file if you have a bigger screen for it to record. So you can then zoom in in AE.

December 4, 2012 at 5:27 pm in reply to: Text Coming Out of Other Text

Take a look at :45. What I would do is place the word “Inside” inside a comp after I animate its move. Then add a mask to the comp so the text animates from nothing to its final destination. Hope this helps and best of luck.

December 4, 2012 at 4:55 pm in reply to: How to create this 3D environment?

Here is one of many ways to re-create this:

-Create 4 black solid layers. Add a Lens Flare to them. Place one flare in the bottom right corner. On another solid make the lens flare on the fare right middle. And then make the third color solid’s lens flare on the top. Fell free to change there color if you want. Having different color flares will look closer to what you are after. Add a Ramp behavior to the last black solid and make sure it is on the bottom of the other layers. Make the top a light gray and the bottom a dark gray. Add an Adjustment layer above the black solids. Add a Fast Blur to it and set it to around say 60. That will make the lens flares blurry. Select all of the layers and create a pre-comp.

Add another color solid and make it white. Add a mask to it and make is an oval shape. Make the feather big like 250 or more. Move it so it is where the floor would be.

As for the light line. I use Optical Flares from Video Copilot. You can make custom flares where you can make a string of 3D Iris Rings and change there shape type to Polygon.

Hope this helps and best of luck.
