There are a few different ways to do it. Check out this tutorial on creating a Hologram. In the middle of the tutorial it covers using an Image Mask which will help you out. Hope this helps.

I agree with Noah, the keyer in Final Cut Pro is way better then the one in Motion. Best of luck.

Ways to avoid interlacing problems is to use a San Serif font or make the font bigger. Unfortunately there is not a flicker filter in Motion. You can import your credits into FCP and add a flicker filter.

I’m not sure what time period “modern movie” is in but the first to come to my mind is classics such as “Goonies,” “Back to the “Future” and “Bill and Ted’s Excellent adventure”. At the time the compositing looked amazing, it just doesn’t hold up. Thank goodness the stories still do, I love those movies. I watched “Clockstoppers” and there is a Birds Eye shot at a dance club that looks really bad.
