Haha very true. Either way, I still like it more than AVID. That thing is a pig.
Anyway, after all that it turns out the reinstall did the trick! 🙂 Delighted, but also feel a bit stupid and bad for getting everyone scratching their heads :s Kicking myself really as it should have been something I did right away after a reboot and a check for updates.
Must have been the latest Adobe update that did it, the 4.0.0 version works fine with these mp4s.
Thank you all for your suggestions and help. It was a simple solution in the end but I really do appreciate your input.
Will be back again when something else goes wrong haha.

Worth a bash I think. I’ll give it a go this evening. Will back up the project on my external hard drive first just to be sure! haha. My trust in Pr has taken a big hit through all this, would rather be super safe.

One of the first things I tried when it happened. There weren’t any new ones. Just checked again. Nothing new to update.
Worth trying an uninstall/reinstall? Will I lose my projects if I do?

Somebody else suggested the QT issue on the Adobe forums yesterday. Tried it. Old versions, new ones, didn’t make any difference. Tried 7.7.7, 7.6.6. and 7.5.5. None changed anything.
The files on their own play fine in QT and in Windows Media Player, Pr just seems to fail on them.

Already tired moving the files to a new location and re-linking them. Seemed to work until it got to the point of selecting the files to re-link them. I then got a dialogue box saying, “The selected file cannot be linked because its type (video) does not match the original file’s type (audio and video)”. Can’t understand that problem as nothing should have changed about the original file.
Just tried bringing the MP4s into a new project. That didin’t work. They weren’t being recognised correctly. They imported but the usual audio/video icon did not appear next to the file name in the project window. When moved to the edit window all it did was play a blank, black screen. Interestingly there is no option when in the edit window to drag audio on to the timeline. Looks like somehow the files have lost audio and any visual is now simply a black screen as opposed to the documentary footage that should be there.

Thanks to you too Todd. Just tried that now but again, it hasn’t worked. Same problem throughout all of the earlier auto-saves.
