I use a popular consumer DVD Ripper Pro to make the DVD into an MP4 which Vegas handles quite easily. I do not know what the program would do with Closed Captions.
I can’t tell you what program is used because the last time I posted the program name on The Cow, I was temporarily banned from the forums.
If I need to transcribe captions, I just let YouTube do it for me. It’s been about 90-90% accurate and certainly a lot faster than me listening to a few seconds then typing it in.

Thanks, Grazie and James.
James, Grazie is correct- I need to be able to change the X and Y size independently, which is impossible in the Cookie Cutter. I believe that the Cookie Cutter was designed for PIP, and never developed beyond its creation.Grazie- This sounds like a good article to add to my Vegas Wiki: VegasTips, which I will do when I finish a time-sensitive project. Or I could give you an account on it. Take a look and send me an email.

Thanks James, but I need rectangles of various sizes, and the cookie cutter doesn’t allow that.

Wow, I forgot about that one also. And I even bought a copy when Fred posted it.

Am I missing something here? How did you make a hollow mask?

It’s the only editor that I ever use. I haven’t pointed out the different line sizes to the client, but I wanted a solution if they complain. OTOH, it’s only on screen for a few seconds, so they may not notice. Thanks for the gif tip.

Thanks, but I would have to make dozens of different gif files. Sometimes I will be highlighting just one, two or three items, or half a page.
However, I will use your suggestion of a few gif files to cover most of my highlights.
Thanks.

Thanks, Graham.
The problem with making a transparent GIF is that I have dozens of places that need this highlight box, and they are all different sizes.
Masking- how would I make a transparent rectangle? I don’t work with masking often because it takes me a lot of time to make anything work – then I forget how I got there.Steve Mann
