They’re both Windows 10 PC’s. And yes, SMB signing is disabled on both as far as I’m aware. I just went to windows features and made sure smb 1.0/cifs file sharing support and smb direct were both unchecked.

Whelp it’s all assembled and cable routing and management is…well, it’s in there. ☺
I’m using 8x 7200rpm HGST 6TB drives in RAID6, plus 2x 500gb NVME for a 1tb read-only cache. Everything is going through a Netgear XS708T over Cat6A, about a 100ft run for each PC/Win10 workstation with QNAP 10gbe NICs.
On Workstation A, I’m getting a pretty respectable 850MB/s write and 1,100MB/s read. But Workstation B is closer to 250MB/s write and 375MB/s read. What gives? Both workstations are pretty identical builds and are using the same cables, etc… What’s the troubleshooting process here?

Alright I think I’m starting to really grasp what you’re getting at.
I think doing the p2p 10gbe is still a nice and affordable way of doing a more streamlined sneaker net, not trying to work off each other’s machine but rather just using it for quick direct file migration.
But yea, We’ll likely be jumping for the TVS-472XT asap. It’s just nice to know I’m already getting compatible NIC cards and cabling in place for phase 2.

Yea I can understand that it certainly won’t work *well* to try and use the same HDD simultaneously on both the host and secondary workstation. Shame to hear though that it simply locks up. I wonder if maybe its still okay to just use it as a quicker means of migrating assets as opposed to portable drives (aka “sneaker net”). Rarely are we actually cutting simultaneously, it’s usually me working in the morning on finishing (color, revisions, titles, effects) then my assistant coming over in the afternoon to do assemblies, organization, labeling, while I work on emails and phone calls.
I already plan on purchasing a shared QNAP NAS later this year and using that over 10gbe, just thought I could split up the investment, first purchasing NIC’s for each machine and some cabling, then later installing the “proper” NAS.

Sorry actually both are PC’s, running Windows 10. I should have made that more clear.
