I’m having the same problem, with an SD sequence. I’ve tried deleting render files and doing the option-apple-R mixdown, with no luck. it seems totally random. The weird thing is that the delay doesn’t happen at the same time every time. I might play the sequence once and have it happen in one place, but then go back and play it again and it happens in another place. so it seems to be some sort of system problem, rather than a problem with a specific render file or capture file. why does this happen? I guess it could be a slow disk, but it’s not like I switched to a different drive. I’ve been editing with this same drive for a couple years now. I haven’t changed anything about my system for many months.

btw, deleting prefs and fixing permissions seems like superstition that everyone says to do for any problem but rarely helps (in my 9 years of experience using FCP). What i’d like to know, if possible, in general and in this specific case, is what really causes the problem. So… any more ideas?

    Thank you,

Based on this thread and other research I’ve done it doesn’t seem like there’s a conclusive answer to any of those questions, April. For me, I never did get anything to work. That one sequence still causes a crash. It first started happening a few months ago when I moved the project from one machine running OS10.4/FCP5 to another one running OS10.5/FCP6. I’ve given up, and resigned myself to the idea that sometime before finishing this doc I’m editing, I’ll have to reconstruct that sequence from scratch.

Well, it’s almost impossible to be sure, but I spent an hour or so scouring out everything I could find that looked like it has something to do with FCP Studio, in the Applications, Library, ~/Library, prefs, Frameworks, etc etc…
    Too bad there’s no Uninstaller.
I would like to know what causes the problem. It’s so odd that just one sequence gives me problems. And it’s disturbing because, who knows when it will happen again? And who’s to say that if I DID wipe the whole hard drive and reinstall everything clean, or even throw the machine in the river and buy a new one, who’se to say that same problem won’t crop again?

I used to always be so happy that FCP didn’t have crazy instabilities like this. sigh.

I’m having this sort of problem, only on one sequence in one project. I just this morning tried what you describe, Louis, removing everything and re-installing, and I still have the same problem. Oddly, FCP doesn’t always mention KGCore when it crashes, and now that I’ve reinstalled, it takes a few minutes longer for the crash to happen than before. But, it still crashes.
I guess I’ll try the quick cut and paste idea but am dubious about that.
