One other question. I do have FCP 5.1. I’m assuming the license is for one computer, so I’d need to buy another copy for the laptop. If I was doing cuts only DV work, would a copy of Final Cut Express for the laptop be sufficient for my needs? I don’t know much about Express…

Thanks for the input. So if I do decide to get a new machine, go for a “Pro” not a standard Mac Book, I take it.

What software did you use to strip the drives? Did you use RAID 0?

Thanks for the info. I did run some tests and couldn’t get it to work out of 7. 5 and into Bitvise. So I just used DVD Studio Pro to set the chapter markers. I’ll try again on the next project and set a chapter marker on the first frame!

Thanks. The tests I’ve done so far haven’t worked, no text track appears in QT. I know the EventStream stuff in 7.5 was pretty early days of this technology. I’ll try the compression markers and report back.

Bobby, upon pressing my original question further at the booth, its like 2 guys and some contract support. So no, its not even 10 engineers, and we can all scale our expectations accordingly. It could be a completely dead product, Optibase did their ever-lovin best to kill it. Boris seems committed, and hopefully will have some money to put behind it going forward.

Another upgrade story…..I started out with a Powerlogix dual 1ghz upgrade. So the sucker has a huge heat sink on it, and needs to be powered. So I connect the power cable to the end of the CD chain, the closest cable. But the cable they supplied is still rather short, it barely reaches. You see where I’m going with this. Instead of going and getting an extender (should I have to do this?) , I get working with the new upgrade. I then decide to add a new hard drive. Upgrades are fun…whee! I open and close the G4 case a few times, and the cable must have come undone. Next time I power up, sparks are undoubtedly flying around inside like a cool particle effect. $700 later, I’ve paid to resuscitate my shorted logic board and zapped hard drive on my old ass G4. And even though Powerlogix is probably half a mile from my house, I no longer think global and buy local…I got a single processor Sonnet.

Hmmm. I think it is a G4 Sonnet. How was yours “not compatible” – what behavior did it have?

I’d give it a try in OS 9 and see if it works. Report back!

Just re-read that ReadMe. Looks like it is a software fix, not a flasher.
