I want to thank you all for your help. After a few tears, a lot of reading and phone calls, I finally called FCP help and it turns out that you all were very right about needing the monitor. It turns out the camera we used the dvx100 isn’t supported by FCP 6 in playback mode and will have interlacing regardless of what I do. Burned a DVD and it looks great. Thank you all for your time and energy!! I am a happy cutting girl!

    Dave,

Thank you so much and I will return to this after I try a few things my DP suggested. He said he shot it in 24p where I can essentially just use the normal DV settings as it will play as 29.97. I am guessing that is the 24p mode you spoke of. I want to apologize up front as I am brand new to this, but after tinkering around before and having no problems, thought I could dive right in. What my DP suggests is something alltogether different. I just bought a new MacBook Pro, installed FCP last week and this is my first time working with it. I had noticed a bit of artifacting on the screen when I would vertically scroll on web pages and saw no relation. My DP (also one of my best friends who shot my entire doc in this same form of 24p and we NEVER had a problem) said that maybe I have a problem with the playback in my computer, the firewire drive or possibly need to reinstall FCP even though he has NEVER heard of a person having the problems I am. He uses his camera all the time and then captures regualr old DVNTSC no issues. Do these potential causes make sense to you??? I am going to capture in iMovie as my first test!
