I removed AJAUncompressedcodec.component and first results look promising.
I’ll play with it more tomorrow but so far 10 bit material looks as it is supposed to be.

Do I need AJAUncompressedcodec.component at some point or can I just leave it in the closet?

Thank You Jeremy for the help.

Did I miss something or the unit can’t play any of “european” frame rates of 25p or 50i ?

In roundtriping to AE in the first place. Even in compressor when making mpeg 2 and some other files.

What bugs me is the fact that everything was near perfect with FCP 5.1.4 and AE and QT of that era. So that just shows that it can be done.

I know that there are workarounds with image sequences but that really makes the whole process more cumbersome and defies the purpose of QT movies as most convenient and fastest way of transferring and shuttling video around. And it used to work very well two years ago, too.

Yes, I’ve seen weird stuff, but I was under impression that same problems happen in AE and Motion as well, as they also use QT infrastructure for conversion…

Other thing is, I’m not sure anymore what a proper functioning combination of OS, FCP, QT, Kona driver is? Is there a “magic combination” that don’t make gamma shifts and other problems right now? I had green flashes with prores hq codec in hd with Aja Kona LHe, and when I updated OS and QT green flashes mostly disappeared but gamma shifts are much more present and noticeable.

I’m currently on a OS 10.5.6 QT 7.5.5 FCP 6.0.5 , kona 6.0.1… Would QT 7.6 and kona 6.0.2 improve things or make it more complicated? Or should I wipe of HD and start from scratch?

Why is AE or Motion better at exporting image sequences than a QT? Aren’t all of them based on QT anyway?

You need to have 1 GB of RAM per core for the system to be at it’s best. So having 6 or 10 GB would make it slower than having 8 GB for an 8 core Mac Pro…

    Hello John,

I just want to confirm that I have the same issue on a system configured similar to yours. It is worth noting that green flashes appear even when playhead is parked on the timeline, and that just shows that speed of hard drives does not have anything to do with the problem. And problem only occurs on a ProRes 1080i projects, everything is working for me in PAL, no flashes whatsoever.

    FCP 6.0.4
    QT 7.5.5
Kona LHe 6.0.1 (I don’t know how to check or change the firmware)
    OS 10.5.5
    2.8 8core Mac Pro
    8GB RAM
    fw800 G-RAID

You are right, I should ask them about it by email… that is easy even from here…

    Thank You

    Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for asking, I do swap the cables back after the capture.

To tell you the truth, I’m from Serbia and swapping faulty card would be like 6 months endeavor here, so I just watch the vtr directly while capturing or go on a coffee-break.

I’m going to look at the captured material for couple of days during editing anyway so I don’t really need to babysit it during the capture. And captured files are perfectly fine. It may be just ProRes HD thing as I never had the issue with SD.
