this will sound lame… but it would be nice if when in a pinch for time, or creatively stumped… I could just go to some ready-made templates I could use for :30 or :15 spots. Or, sometimes I figure out how to do certain kinds of animations, etc. from the templates… or, I can just peruse them for ideas. The VFX templates are nice, as are the Apple ones… but it would be nice to have a larger selection and preferably in SD (since the VFX ones are in HD only)

  • Well, that’s what I’d assume too. But I partner/do work for a media studio, and the studio bought FinalCutPro Studio. The owner of the studio installed it on his home studio G5 DP, on his Powerbook, and at an editing bay with a G4 at the studio. The license says you can install on 4 or 5 machines… so I’m trying to install on my home machine.

He says he didn’t have any problem at all with the install on all three of his machines. So, doesn’t appear to be bad disks. But I can’t figure out why it won’t install. My drive seems to be fine, even tried a brand new one, my DVD drive seems to be fine for anything else, but I tried an old external one too just in case. My RAM tests out fine. My OS is fresh. Can’t figure it out.

I had the same setup and noticed the same issues. I took the advice here and upgraded my card to the 9800SE with only one monitor hooked up to it. And, I used an old PCI card I had to run the second monitor. I also kicked up my RAM to 4.5GBs.

All of this helped significantly, but still not as “realtime” as implied. Maybe the new version with Tiger will eliminate these issues. For the moment, just try turning off layers your don’t have to see until you’re finished so that your CPU and current card has less to do until you’re finished.

How do you do it in FCP? I usually just do a quick slide show in photo, export a QT, and import that in… but that’s kinda lame.

If the project is nearly done, couldn’t your just have the folks with the AE version.. output a lossless QT file, import that into Motion and just finish it out by building on top of the almost completed clip?

There are TONS of sometimes interesting public domain clips you can download for free in many formats.

I tried the Sorenson demo and it’s incredible. I did time comparisons with Cleaner 6 and the difference was staggering. Like the difference between 4hrs and 20mins for the same compression flavor. And, the Sorenson Spark component blows Sorenson 3 out of the water. And mpeg 4 for that matter.

If you have AE, you can just import your lossless movie into AE and export as an .swf if you’re not embedding into a Flash Movie.

I don’t get why you export as flv, then import into Flash to make an swf? Why not just make an swf to begin with? Or, is the flv format exclusively for embedding video into a flash movie without having to reference an external file?
