[Steve Connor] “Seamless integration with Resolve?”

Is it not seamless enough as it stands? How would you improve on it?

[Steve Connor] “I’d love to see the return of tracks :)”

Well, obviously. But apart from tracks …

[Andrew Kimery] “The only time I’ve gotten decent tech support from a vender is when I’ve been under a maintenance contract with them. ‘Free’ tech support always seems to be disappointing, but I guess you get what you pay for. I think I called Apple tech support one time for a question with FCP 5.1 and the support was so useless I’ve never bothered to call them about anything since.”

We very quickly discovered that the AVID maintenance contract support was quite literally a joke – a couple of useless stock responses and that was it. In no sense was it worth what we were paying for it.

I don’t know if it has improved in recent years but I would be surprised if it had.

[Walter Soyka] “Not to be too rah-rah Team Adobe here, but that’s not actually clear to me. How do you measure the pace of development? “

I’m probably just being grouchy (again), but I was (probably over-)reacting to two things.

    a) The fact that the After Effects performance issue is still very much outstanding. The re-architected solution may well be just around the corner, as you say, but it’s starting to feel just not good enough that we haven’t properly seen the fruits of it yet.

    b) I was hugely underwhelmed by the “new” Title Tool in Premiere. I’m sure I’m not along in thinking they seriously dropped the ball on this one. Better to have done nothing than to have done what they have done.

But as I say, it’s just grouchiness. What is undeniable is that support is totally inadequate from everything we keep hearing about it. That is something that should be enhanced with the subscription model but the signs are it’s being downgraded yet further.

July 6, 2017 at 2:23 pm in reply to: Informal NLE poll

[Walter Soyka] “Among our agency clientele, we see companies using Premiere Pro over FCPX at a ratio of about 3 to 1. “

I know it’s the question but I wonder how many places use only one NLE and how many use or at least have access to a range of them.

So for example the answer to the question “Which NLE does the BBC use?” would be “All of them”.

[Tom Sefton] “78% of statistics are made up.”

Apart from the ones we personally like to rely on, which are 100% correct.

July 6, 2017 at 1:10 pm in reply to: Informal NLE poll

I’ll go one better and give you a “formal” poll which supposedly shows (market share):

    AVID: 4.5%
    Camtasia: 9.9%
    FlowPlayer: 16.8%
    Premiere: 20.8%
    Final Cut Pro: 23.8%

Then I will sit back and wait for Tim to remind us how to treat polls of this kind. it’s usually pretty withering, I seem to remember.

[Bill Davis] “Yeah, well. as with many profit driven businesses – customer satisfaction will NEVER be a priority unless and until it can be proven to effect the bottom line.”

To justify their marketing claims about the value to customers of the subscription model, they should have at the very least pumped serious amounts of money and effort into support by now, which there is absolutely no sign that they have done.

Meanwhile the pace of development of the flagship products has clearly dropped, along with quality standards in some cases. At the same time they are expending a lot of effort into finding new ways to monetise the customer base.

    It’s not looking pretty.

[Bill Davis] “[Simon Ubsdell] “Overall your experience, while incredibly frustrating, sounds atypical.”

    Not in my experience.”

I didn’t actually mean the tech support part of it.

I’d be more than inclined to agree that Adobe just haven’t got a handle on this at all. Which given the subscription model, is frankly not good.

  • [Angelika Blaschke] “Honesty I cannot understand why a mighty program as Premiere CC did not program a function like bringing-back-the-playhead-to-the-start-position…”

What do you mean by this? Do you want the playhead to revert to the start of the sequence? I thought you simply wanted it to revert to where you’d positioned it before hitting Play, which is why I recommended using Play Around.
