Doh! It’s all hidden away on list view. At least start and end and duration plus creation date are – no evidence for frame rate, audio sample rate, etc. though.

Fair enough, but the essential point is that operationally in terms of the actual GUI you’re sitting in front of, which is all that will really matter for the majority of users, a “project” is a “sequence” in every meaningful sense and it would only help to think of it that way – to tell them they need to get their head around a whole new universe of meaning because that’s the way it’s working under the hood isn’t really going to do much other than confuse unnecessarily. It’s best if they stay ignorant of the Matrix and don’t swallow the blue pill of wisdom (or was it the red pill?)

Isn’t this all just a confusion based on some things having changed their names?
A “project” is to all intents and purposes identical to what we used to call a sequence – there doesn’t seem to be anything more mysterious going on here.

No problem. You can also use the Audition feature here which means that you get a nice little stack of alternative choices right there on the timeline with a coverflow type dialogue to choose between them – quite handy though not breathtakingly so!

you can actually replace – it’s just not replace we’re used to. drag the new clip over the old one and you’ll get the menu option.
Not liking this Primary storyline rippling thing at all – rippling should never have become the default behaviour for the timeline. There are quite a few tiresome knock-on effects from this.

A “project” is no longer what you know it as – it’s just a timeline. This is potentially rather confusing at first.

Yes, actually – it feels pretty neat so far despite the lack of some basic stuff (XML, EDL and OMF/AAF for starters) that means I won’t be able to use it seriously for a while. But thank goodness we’ve still got:
3 point editing (plus the new “connect” edit mode – nice!);
you can set In/Out points on the fly;
JKL still works;
we’ve got all those lovely Logic audio plug-ins (fantastic!);
it’s fun and it’s fast.Oddly, a lot of the worst predictions came true (including many of mine) but for me it’s still quite attractive as a proposition now it’s out in the open – and I didn’t feel that last week.

Hey, don’t anybody panic – everything you want and think is missing is hidden away in the magic menus that switch everything back to the way it was, as convincingly argued so many times on this forum over the last couple of months. You just need to find them, so start hunting and stop being a bunch of “Chicken Littles”.
And the clincher is that David Roth Weiss categorically stated only last week that FCPX “will do most of the day to day things you’re doing now in far better ways than whatever you’re using today”, so it’s got to be true 😉
