As to how you’d affect the levels independently of a multi-track clip (which is probably what you’re asking) I have no idea as yet!

You need to configure your channels as either mono or stereo in the Channel Configuration Pane of the Audio Inspector. And you need to use the Pan Mode selector under Volume and Pan to set your panning destination (some of the terms are a bit mysterious right now but you’ve at least got stereo left/right and I imagine dialogue will be centred mono).

Thanks for that – unfortunately I had the same result in that none of the field changes actually stuck despite making a new metadata view.

More worrying is that what we are actually looking for is not Aspect Ratio but Pixel Aspect Ratio (which is the flag needed in order to read an anamorphic source correctly) and despite an impressive array of metadata field options that was missing (I’m guessing Pixel X/Y Dimension is not it unless they’ve decided to change the nomenclature).

Could you elaborate? This was the first place I looked for aspect ratio and I can’t see any metadata field relating to this let alone allows you to change it. Not saying it’s not there – some of this stuff is hard to find 😉

Whoa! Take a deep breath. It’ll all be OK 😉

Don’t go near secondary storylines for compositing as you’re not going to be able to “see through” to what underneath, except in the sense that you can fade them in and out over a primary storyline.

If you want to composite, use the Connect edit system I described to you earlier to make overlay clips that will “blend” correctly with what’s underneath. Yes, you will have to use the opacity sliders to get your fades working rather than using transitions, but that’s hardly the end of the world, is it?

BTW I thought everyone in Nepal was supposed to be super-calm?! 😉

It’ll still work, as I described before, you just can’t use secondary storylines to achieve it.

The issue is that secondary storyline acts exactly like a primary storyline in that it expects to be at the bottom of the stack as it were (it won’t pass through any blending information), so it’s not much use as a compositing tool.

I’d just like to confirm that my stability issues are almost certainly all related to trying to run another app on the same machine, whether before or during an FCPX session. If nothing else has been started, both FCPX and Motion run smoothly with FCPX on its own running very fast, but if I try to use Safari (even closing it before the session) it creates problems. Not wanting to waste much more time seeing what makes it crash, I’ll stick with this diagnosis for now!
