What Mark says is as always exactly right but there is a workaround that I exploited in this template that works as you are wanting it to.

It uses the Simple Border filter to create the box but with some extra complications in order to keep everything resizing proportionately.

Have you not tried using the Share menu to export to DVD directly from FCPX?
This works quite effectively although the authoring choices are of course somewhat limited.

Go to the Media tab for your imported Illustrator image and make sure you deselect Fixed Resolution. That way you can scale all you want and you’ll keep the nice clean vector image.

You really should try using the Share menu to export directly to YouTube from within FCPX. They implemented this feature specially for people like you so you wouldn’t have to engage in complex processes. It is by far the speediest and most efficient option for you and the quality will be excellent.

Hard to explain if you haven’t actually looked at the app, but yes – the favouriting is identical to FCPX. That’s identical, as in “identical”.
My point is that going from favouriting to “smart collections” and the rest is truly trivial and non-significant and hence the “amazing originality” of FCPX is really a bit of a chimera that is distracting us from how pitifully slowly and unsatisfactorily Apple are moving forward with this “exciting new tech”.

I hear what you’re saying and broadly I’m sure you’re right – but is it really true to say that the speed is impressive?
Multicam, broadcast monitoring, PSD support are not exactly new and exciting things, are they? It’s all fairly basic stuff you’d have expected to be there from day one, not to be limping into view almost a year after the launch. None of these are innovations, they’re staples of the 21st century NLE.
My concern is based on the evidence that FCPX has been in gestation for a good many years now and it’s still waaaaaaay off the mark. The pace of development looks to be totally unsatisfactory if it’s to draw level with the opposition in any foreseeable timeframe.

iMovie has favouriting, filtering and keywording (based on automatically detecting content) which are essentially indistinguishable from their FCPX counterparts. The step up to FCPX strikes me as being trivial.
