The point to consider here is that Fusion has been a tool for high end VFX artists since the last century. It was built specifically for that purpose and it served it very well. That group of users will be extremely dismayed. This is a major downgrade for Fusion and those users will now definitely desert it. That might not include you, but let’s not dismiss them quite so casually.

Fusion 16 is the Resolve Fusion module ripped out and standing in for the real standalone Fusion … which we now have to assume is effectively dead.
Fusion now stands in relation to Resolve much like Apple Motion stands in relation to FCP X – it’s a humble helper application, there to provide titling and basic VFX and mograph support.

If you don’t want the text to come through, only the blur of the background, simply disable the text layer in Motion.

It is not clear what you are asking, but if you want to create a FCP X Title template that blurs a section of the background image, then:
a) make a Clone of the Title Background layer
b) apply a blur to the Clone layer
c) mask the Clone layer as requiredThere is no option to mask an effect in Motion – you can only mask layers/groups.

I’m sorry, I hadn’t quite understood what you were trying to do. The easiest way to create transparency for an image using a matte source is to:
Add a Bitmap tool to the matte image and set the Channel to Luminance.
Pipe the output of the Bitmap tool into the mask input of the image you want to mask.
In the Mask tab of the Image check the Multiply by Mask button.
You now have an image with the transparency of the matte.
You can use the controls in the Bitmap tool to adjust the matte levels.
There you go. Just one of the approved methods for achieving this.
I hope you don’t mind me saying that although your method works, it’s not one that I would recommend.
