  • Thanks, Bret!

  • Hey Michael-
I only get one option (the one that stretches the footage). In order to get the others do I have to use a second monitor? I was hoping to just using the iMac monitor.

  • It’s stretching my DV footage to fit the full 27 inch screen thus lowering the quality. When I use Digital Camera Preview on my Macbook Pro it does not stretch my footage and the quality is not compromised. On the iMac 27 inch the quality goes way down when I use Digital Camera Preview.

My fear is getting cheap looking text that you sometimes get out of FCP (more like youtube quality than Criterion quality). I assume your suggestion will give me strong text (subtitles), like Criterion DVDs. Am I right?

Thanks everybody for the advice. I must not have explained myself very well. Let me start over. I have a documentary project and all of its footage is on an external drives. There is no trouble with drive space in my externals and I have around 20 GB left on my internal. I also have 2 GB of RAM. But my FCP file has no memory to operate and now won’t even open (just viewer and browser). When I try to open sequence there is no memory. There are many subtleties that are hard to express and would love if someone would walk me through over the phone. This is such an important project, I would hate to screw it up trying to figure out through messages. Can anyone help?

  • To simplify my questions….

I shot on 48kHz 24P Sqeeze. What should my capture/sequence settings be set to? Would this also apply to a PD 150 shot in 16:9? thanks, shelby

  • Thanks Noah-
I did look at that link, it was helpful. I just had an editor tell me that I needed to capture in 4:3 since it was shot on DV so I got all turned around and confused. I understand what you’re saying as I shot on 16:9 (Squeeze) and Final Cut adapts to that so I will not see the black that the normal non-anormorphic monitor would generate. So again does this mean (just for reassurance) that my capture/sequence settings should be set to 48kHz (I shot on 48kHz) Anamorphic (3:2 Aspect Ratio; 16:9). Would that also include a few things I shot on a PD-150 in 16:9?

What is your opionion of squeeze mode? It’s not going to compromise my film?

    thanks, Shelby
