Hi Ted – I bought a Sony HDR AX-2000 that shoots tapeless HD. It’s in the price range you mentioned. Shoots AVCHD clips that import and edit in Sony Vegas Pro 10 very well. It’s worth checking out.

  • Danny – I also shoot AVCHD and edit with SVP 10 with no problems. I shoot on a Sony HDR-AX2000 I purchased earlier this year. My workflow is very fast and I edit projects with multiple tracks with ease.

    Danny,

Yes, I am working with the AVCHD format via a new Sony HDR-AX2000.

I have the multi-media slot on the Alienware Aurora. When I’m done shooting, I pull the SDHC card(I shoot on 2 – 32GB SDHC cards) and insert in the Aurora. It’s a copy and paste from there.

Once copied into the computer, I import into Sony Vegas Pro 10 (64bit) and start editing. It’s made my workflow very simple and very fast.

My previous camera was a Canon GL2 which worked great with Sony Vegas Pro 8 but I felt it was time to go HD and know I needed an upgrade on the PC side to handle the file sizes of HD.

I recently purchased an Alienware Aurora with an i7 quad core processor and 12GB of RAM. Alienware is owned by Dell but it’s origin is in gaming computers with loads of processing speed and made to be expandable. I’m happy with my purchase!

Keep your subject several feet away from the green screen and be sure to use a backlight. I’ve used Vegas Pro 8 & 10 with great success using the chroma key plug-in.
Making your own green screen?? I bought a large paper roll backdrop from a local camera/photo store for $60. It’s chroma key green, about 9 ft wide and you just roll out the amount needed for your shot composition. If it gets wrinkled or damaged, cut off the damaged area and unroll more of the paper. It works really nice.
