What about image sequence import? IIRC, didn’t you have to go through some crazy workaround to get image sequences into X? Did that ever get fixed?

Probably. I don’t think OSX does much to move them one way or another, other than being another Office delivery platform. I get your point though, Andrew. When consumers are protected from the costs of developing quality software by subsidized offerings, they tend to expect that applications should be good and inexpensive… with free updates. That’s why I continue to believe that the only companies that will offer perpetually licensed software in the future will be; very small shops, niche developers, open source projects and companies that can subsidize dev costs with other revenue streams.

I’ve done roughly 20 projects in the beauty-product market. All of them finished on media composer with a combination of Boris and Sapphire filters, as well as the baselight AVX plugin.
In essence, I am just profiling the fact that Media Composer, in this example, is not being used for its editing prowess, but it’s abilities to be a ‘finishing’ product (with the right combo of plugins).”
Ah, I see. I was hoping to get some insight into the specific kinds of effects you were doing, e.g., blemish removal or object removal/replacement. I don’t use NLE’s for compositing or effects anymore (not since Vegas 3.0), even when I probably could. But that’s mostly because I’m more comfortable using other tools for those purposes. It makes me wonder how much you can actually do in an NLE now.

Seriously though, it might not be a bad idea to tuck a few away in case you temporarily lose your income down the road. I’m guessing that at some point the subscription will get a little more expensive, and our dollars buy a little less. I like the idea of being able to pay for a few month’s or a year’s subscription at today’s rate. Then again, who knows, subscriptions may get cheaper, or Adobe may offer less expensive packages by then. 🙂

That’s actually a great idea, Andrew. My only question is, if the gift cards expire. Will a card bought at the 2015 subscription price be valid in 2025? If so, this may be a serious option for me.

Definitely. I’m not wild about the subscription only model, but if I had the choice, I would rather hedge against inflation as much as possible by subscribing as far into the future as I could.
