[Michael Gissing] “[Bill Davis]”I forgot about all the editors that switch back and forth between the Macs and PCs sitting side by side on their desks. ”

Actually you forgot about all the editors that no longer have a Mac and switched back to PC and all the editors that never had a Mac. Hard to imagine but that’s life outside a bubble.”

I was actually in the position to switch to Mac about three weeks ago. I was up for a hardware refresh and I could have asked for a Mac Pro, since all of my applications are cross platform… I really considered it, but in the end it came down to hardware and support, Apple just didn’t have a strong enough offering to entice me into switching. This also happened to two friends of mine earlier this month, except they opted to switch from Apple to Windows PCs, again it was all about the hardware.

[Bill Davis] “If your value logic is sound, then every AVID, Premiere Pro, and DaVinci editor should also see owning a personal copy of the $299 FCP X as a “no brainer” as well.

    Cool.”

Not every Avid, Premiere Pro or Resolve editor is a Mac user. ☺

[Scott Witthaus] ” Does the corporate guy/gal need all that? Wedding videos? Online marketing folks?”

As a ‘corporate guy’ who works in a large marketing group… sometimes, yes. You might be surprised at the things we’re sometimes asked to fix or change. Someone might bring me an interview where they don’t like the color of the lights in the background, or they want me to match the color of different camera angles from two different camera brands, or work with compressed raw footage from a Blackmagic camera, etc. I can usually handle these tasks in Premiere Pro or EA, but sometimes it’s just easier to do in Resolve. Lastly, if I worked on weddings full time, I don’t think I would use anything but Resolve and Fusion. ☺

[Larry Watts] “I order from full Compass often and they are only selling Fusion 8 Studio for PC. BH says Mac and PC but says it takes two weeks to get it.

Is there a place to get Fusion 9 right away with out upgrading?

    Thanks!

If I download the free version to start working I suppose they will ship a dongle with order?

    Larry”

The same thing happened to me. I ordered from Motion Media and they told me it would take one or two weeks to fulfill the order.

AFAIK, the Studio version requires a dongle to operate – the download link is for current owners of the software… I could be wrong though. ☺

That’s also very cool – I’ve never used a control surface for grading, but I’ve gotten more curious about them since the release of Blackmagic’s DaVinci Resolve Micro Panel. I’ve always used mixers for audio, and pen/tablet for digital drawing, so lately, I’ve been wondering if I’m missing out by not using a control surface with Resolve and the Lumetri Panel in AE and Premiere Pro. It seems worth looking into.

Wow, that’s cool. I’ll have to look into this system further.

[Paul Neumann] “Lumetri with a control surface is delicious.”

I didn’t know you could use the Lumetri panel with a control surface. Which one do you use?

[Andrew Kimery] “[Simon Ubsdell] “A virtual knob has to be the single worst user interface known to man – why we still have to put up with this skeuomorphic abomination is beyond me.”

Oh man, I hate virtual knobs with a passion!”

    Completely agree!!

[Simon Ubsdell] “But I think the way it all now stacks up the Studio offering is pretty much a must-have for anyone with even the most modest VFX requirements.”

    Absolutely! It’s definitely a no-brainer.
