Hey Stephen, I was inclined to think that at first as well. But if you look a bit closer, you may notice that none of the hands or arms seem to turn or rotate after the freeze frame, so you essentially get the same flat view of each ‘still’. What makes me suspect the Puppet Tool here, is the way the arms distort. You’ll notice that some of the forearm graphics seem to bend and stretch. At least, that’s what I believe I’m seeing. 🙂

Actually, I think that’s a chromakey effect. Look at the way the edges break appart when there is a lot of motion blur. I might be wrong, but this doesn’t look like rotoscoping to me.
I do think Jay is right though, the warping of the hands was done in post… my guess is that they used the puppet tool in AE.

Hey Blake,
This looks like a decent machine… the only things I might change would be to configure your system drive as a) two drives in RAID 0 (with regular image backups) or b) four drives in RAID 10. I might also consider going dual Xeon instead of single… after all, that’s the main reason for choosing Xeon over an i7 processor. 🙂

Considering the size of Adobe and the AE/Premiere userbase, I find this amazing. And I COMPLETELY appreciate both teams for such hard work and dedication to the customers. Other software companies could really learn a lesson or two from you all.

Sorry for jumping in on your question to Owen, I didn’t know if you’ve seen the C4D and AE integration tutorials on Lynda.com, but they’re both very good. Also worth noting is that the author of those tutorials (Rob Garrott) often co-hosts a live chat on Cineversity Live every Wed @ 11:00am PST. (https://www.cineversity.com/live/). It’s a good opportunity to get some of your C4D questions answered in a live format.

And in case you haven’t seen them, videocopilot.net also has a few 3D/AE integration tutorials (https://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/3d/)… though, I think only one of them is C4D centric. If you’re new to AE, VCP is really one of the best resources for beginners. Between the Cow, VCP and Lynda, you can really get a good grip on AE and C4D in a fairly short time… I wish they had all been around when I first started learning motion graphics and VFX. 🙂

This all looks decent to start. Personally, I would opt for a RAID array for the system drive, 2 drives in a RAID 0 configuration for speed (and a backup image of that array, updated weekly), or even better, 4 drives in a RAID 10 configuration for speed + redundancy. I would also add a second RAID 0 array (internal or external) for a fast work drive.
