computer build for Premiere Pro 5.5

Please take a look at the system below, and tell me what you think about using it for Adobe Premiere Pro 5.5.

I’m a Lighting cameraman that typically leaves the editing to the client. But lately, I have been doing some gratis work for non-profits, and would like to offer some editing services to help them. My main cameras are XDcam HD422 and Panasonic DVC pro50 HD.

Any thoughts on the following build I am considering from Maingear? I know I could save some money by building myself, but I don’t have the time or patience to deal with it. I just need a reasonable system that will handle the footage and output to a DVD, BluRay, or Quicktime file.

Hey Blake,

This looks like a decent machine… the only things I might change would be to configure your system drive as a) two drives in RAID 0 (with regular image backups) or b) four drives in RAID 10. I might also consider going dual Xeon instead of single… after all, that’s the main reason for choosing Xeon over an i7 processor. 🙂

Thanks much for the response. Now, this next question is going to reveal my ignorance on such matters, but would the i7 work OK? If so, which GPU card would be appropriate? This is for occasional work, so I am trying to balance cost and performance. Again, thanks.

One example: I have an i7-hex system with Premiere 5.0, and it works fine. Unless you plan a dual-proc system, there’s no need for a Xeon.
