That’s a GREAT question. I expect to run into this as soon as I can get one of the Aja boards I have to actually work.

    Subscribing for the answer!!

I have no experience there, but I did find this:

    https://www.sonicsense.com/blog/reviews-and-tutorials/how-to-convert-between-spdif-and-aes-digital-audio#.UvwCr_vNnVo

From SPDIF it’s a simple jump to any number of home surround sound systems.

    Good luck!

    To answer my own question…

There doesn’t seem to be any other way. AJA has been very accommodating, and shipped me a replacement board.

Now, anyone have any ideas why Control Room sees the board, but won’t capture from it?

  • Be *very* careful using this set of drivers. I bricked my corvid 3G using the firmware update feature. It may also affect other boards as well.

Jeff – That (decoder) makes perfect sense now. Useless..lol

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll test that shortly.

And, yeah, it’s a crap card. It is a P34, but it says “Easy Your Life” on the top. Nothing else… LOL

Craig – Thank you for the suggestions. I don’t own a desktop, and what my intent is portable ingest for spot news so I can upload to Ustream. Plus, I want to hold off purchasing until I can see if I can get the digital component connector figured out.

    Thanks again!

Scott make some great points. Have you considered making yourself a longer cable, and putting the batteries inside your coat?

Also, don’t forget you can use your light to warm your fingers too…

I want to try those nasa gloves they are selling now. They’re very thin, but they’re supposed to reflect a lot of heat.

I’ve been involved with those kinds of facilities before, but not in a video capacity. Best thing to do, is ask them exactly what they want you to do. Describe to them what your needs are and together you can work something out with that much guessing.

I know in food development, and in pharmaceutical industries, they are fanatical about pieces that can fall off and get stuck in a machine. They also like chemical solutions for disinfecting if that’s an issue. Places that involve radiological products are very concerned about dust, and will go to great links to control it.

From working haz-mat, don’t forget that once you’re in the suit, you’re in the suit. For instance, it’s very bad get all buttoned up and in realize your car keys are inside your pants pocket… so in your case think about where you need to stash cards or discs or batteries or cables.

They also may have personal requirements like no aftershaves no deodorant and things like that too…

ps – be certain you get a picture of yourself all dudded up that way you can put it in the demo reel!

  • To answer the easier question, A crystal is what we used in the old days to Determine the transmitting and receiving frequencies. This changed over to IC circuitry in about the eighty’s. Some stuff still has crystals in it though.

That is excellent troubleshooting you sound like you’ve done, But have you tried relocating your setup to see if this problem follows you? Also, are you running completely on batteries or you using a wall work for the receiver?

I’d even under it from the camera system and read it into something else just to see. high pitched rapid sounds like you describe indicate to me something similar to a digital clock or timing source is getting into your system somewhere, either externally or internally.

It all depends on your definition of ‘good’.

Maybe you need something that won’t break easily. Maybe you’re looking for something with excellent sound reproduction at a distance. Maybe you’re looking for something that has lots of sound rejection off axis. Or maybe, good means good price point.

I think if you are at the beginning of this journey, most any XLR microphones will be fine enough for you. Just invest in some coverings for your microphone, it really does make a world of difference.

Is it possible you’ve damaged the mike capsule? Do you get noise with the pack on but mike unplugged? If it’s a one piece, can you go to a college or news place and test swap your transmitters? Is the transmitter battery bad? Contacts on the transmitter battery port clean? (Rub them with a pencil eraser).

That’s all I got off the top of my head, sorry!
