  • Okay, then to pick your brain a little further (I appreciate you taking the time to type out long answers, and have discussion), here’s the next “disconnect” point for me – where does this editing, colour correction and assembly happen, if not in the timeline, or related to a project?

  • Thanks Bill – I can’t say editing outside the timeline makes a lot of sense to me now, and this was a bit of a “WTF?” moment, but fortunately it happened on a project that makes it annoying, more than tragic.

I’ll start by avoiding compound clips until I understand their purpose better.

  • Thanks, Tom and James, for the help.

  • Wow …that’s pretty non-intuitive.

Okay, so for future reference, if I expand the compound clips in the alt project, and re-compound them as a new clip, they’ll be fine.

Okay, figured it out. For some reason, the Clip preview was set to 12.5%, but the timeline was set to “Fit”. It seems the editing tool and filter previews match whatever the clip view is. I set the clip preview to Fit, and the rest followed.

    Weird, but resolved.

I thought I would loose the new composition because it wasn’t a “project”, but it sounds like it’ll all be saved as a compound clip in my event.

    That works.

    Thanks again,

    Hey Jeremy,
Thanks – that’s pretty slick. Is there anyway to save that odd size clip? Seems like if I copied and pasted my original video composition into the odd-sized clip timeline and made my changes, I’d only have one shot at it. Can this be saved somehow?

My video composition is all created already, with various clips, titles, graphics, etc., at 16:9 (1080 HD). I’d essentially be cutting a pasting it all into place and exporting after I resize/move elements to fit the new format. Seems I’d loose all those changes and be left with only my original project after I exported, or am I not understanding how this works.

Okay, that makes sense. I’m a graphic designer turned “video editor” (note the sarcastic quotes), so this level of detail is good to know. I’m not knowledgeable, but I am generally experienced enough to understand the concepts.

I appreciate the advice, again. Trying to improve…

    Thanks Vince,

To append what I just said above – I realize now that I ASSUME it’s a smaller file, but I think I’m getting confused between Full Quicktime broadcast MOV, and an h.264 compressed file.

So, the file size os the same regardless the final video dimensions?
