  • Boy, I am baffled. Getting an error

“Operation not allowed” followed by “out of memory.”

After rebooting, trashing preferences, repairing permissions and checking all my hard discs, I get into FCP 6.06 and can’t seem to open up one of the sequences. I think it was the sequence I was working with when this thing died. It is of note that something in the header of the drive I was saving my project to was found in Disc utility and repaired. But now the problem persists. I also had saved a file that is not to be found, I save in numbered increments.

I’ll keep trouble shooting this. Glad for the forums to read of possible solutions. I’ve got to be honing in somewhere on the right way here shortly.

  • I suppose it’s not then easy to get it into FCP 6 then, huh?

    Yeah, thanks Apple. 😉

  • Thanks you guys for this input. I may just try to rename the hard drives at work on that computer. If not, then I’ll keep the file structure the same and reconnect each time.

Going through point by point, I composed the following, which is not now necessary.

Problem Solved Michael with a rendering of the file out in export. Once it is rendered out it is not jittery as it displays in the Canvas in FCP. This is not intended for Television, otherwise I would have an issue with the small text with older Televisions with interlacing. Perhaps this will be part of a DVD put to HD for television, but no plans with that now.

The sample render can be seen here if you have interest, playing as it should, but was not playing good in FCP

Thanks for that response from both of you. I guess I jumped the gun with the post before exporting a file to see how it looked first.

    Thanks you guys.

And the beauty of exporting them out as self contained movies before taking them into Compressor would be to have Compressor run in the background independent of FCP as well, right? FCP has been tied up with this export for the last day. I now know better how to do this, and a card may very well be worth having with render times like this one. It’s now been over a full day and it claims 5.5 hours yet to go. Simply astounding. I’m glad to know a better way from here on out.

Thanks so much David. I almost thought the program had frozen up with such a long time to encode, as if I were running Windows again.

I’ll have to look into that Matrox HDCompress card.

In terms of workflow, Do you delete that self contained movie after you put it through an encode to get your final file?

  • And I don’t even think I have that codec on my system. I have ProRes 422 and ProRes 422 (HQ). Hmmm, can I download it anywhere and install it on my system, or does it only come with FCP 7 or something?

I see. I hadn’t realized I had two frame rates going. I thought all my footage was the same. Perhaps my After Effects export was solid 30 fps rather than 29.97

    Oh, wait. Now what?

“Operation not allowed. You cannot nest sequences with different editing timebases.”

I had my “watermark” and dropped it into one sequence and got this? Any thoughts?

My FCP and Mac are getting buggy. Compressor freezing up, external hard drive being strange and breaking connection with FCP, so maybe that is part of the issue?
