Oh, so they do. I had tried to drop in a sequence onto another sequence before posting my initial question here, but it gave me an error notice. Okay, now I see that your great tip makes those sequences no nestable into another timeline sequence. Wonderful. I’m happy this to be the case.
Thanks so much Tom for responding and aiding me out on this.

Looks like with nesting, I can drag the nested clip up into the browser, but there it is made into a sequence rather than a clip. Bummer.
Oh well, thus we have the export as a self contained movie to be brought in again, right?
The particular files I’m dealing with were brought in from After Effects. They are short looping animations. One is the introduction with audio that was added not in AE, but rather here in FCP. The other is a small “watermark” so to speak of the brand in the bottom lower corner of the video. It has slight animation to it repeating every 22 seconds and needs to loop. I have a long sequence of it looping, clip after clip after clip of itself. I’ll need therefore to export that as a self contained clip then re-import, correct?

Wow Tom, thanks a ton for that. I’ve never seen or known of that option before. Worked magnificently. That will save me a bunch of time and hassle.

Looks like I’m stuck rendering then. Boy, that will take a bunch of time. How unfortunate.

October 20, 2010 at 3:59 pm in reply to: Exporting Lower Third to Final Cut, Alpha Channel and MaskOh sweet, thank for that. I began to just export and was going to “key” out the grey, which did work in a trial render of a few frames, then checked back here, implemented your advice. Thanks a ton for that.
Looks like I had to render out in a codec other than ProRes, which doesn’t allow for RGB+Alpha, so just went with the native default Animation codec. Keying this thing with the ProRes codec is almost tempting because of file size and FCP making it have to render when brought into the timeline.
Regardless, thanks a ton for the tip. I’m implementing it now. Here is the screen shot of the alpha you helped me knock out.

October 16, 2010 at 4:48 am in reply to: Possibility to Speed Footage, PItch Shift Voice? If there were not a render issue, it seems like much of content (like talk radio archives, educational lectures, etc.) might be sped up a bit. I tend to notice a few Youtube Commentators seemingly speeding up their video’s, or at least that is the perception I have when listening to them.
I, for one, like to download content and play it back double speed with Quicktime. An hour lecture becomes 30 minutes. 3x speed can be problematic with some speakers, but 2x speed is comfortable. I love to compress time on some content where it’s merited.

October 16, 2010 at 3:26 am in reply to: Possibility to Speed Footage, PItch Shift Voice?Okay, so it’s doable then. Cool. I guess I speed the video up in Final Cut, then send the audio to Soundtrack, and there I will be able to pitch shift it back where I want it? I’ll read up on how to do that.
Should be interesting to see the results.

Magnificent. Had the same question, happy and delighted to find the answer was searchable right here.
