You can imagine my confusion when nothing was working. It was a problem I have never run into at home.
Happy editing.

Someone in the blackmagic forum suggested turning off the virus scanner (virex in my case) and that seems to have done the trick. I can set entourage to tell me when to scan for viruses. Maybe this will solve your problem as well.
It seems for my system to have gone deeper than just relaunching the capture tool. I got the spinning wheel of death every time I tried to capture. And a couple of times it actually crashed the entire system. Finder and all, I had to do the dreaded power button shutdown technique. Thankfully I didn’t have to actually unplug it from the wall.
Before I posted I trashed the perfs, reset the capture settings, tried capturing from decklink dv and firewire, and decklink 8bit nothing worked. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled FCP, then I reformatted my media drive and still nothing. Then I downloaded FCP rescue, again nothing. I am also now the proud owner of FCP HD the visual quick start guide, handy but not for actually solving this particular problem. I am sure I did other stuff like light candles, pray and burn insense….I wanted to put my fist through my cinema display but that would have gotten me fired considering its the 30in and hella pricey. I even threatened it with going back to AVID…I have one of those in my office as well.
thanks to all for their great suggestions.

April 6, 2005 at 1:53 pm in reply to: Posted in FCP and Now…FCP and G5 crash upon captureI have downloaded the latest drivers, I did the easy set up thing, and the hooking up via firewire and rs422. I got the same result in both setups. It would record about a second of vid then stop on a frame and digitize the frame till I told it to stop or it crashed (which it did most often) I do have virus software on it but I have now at your recommendation disabled it and am trying that next.
Thanks for your help I will let you know.

April 5, 2005 at 9:11 pm in reply to: Posted in FCP and Now…FCP and G5 crash upon captureIt seems I have to beg to get help. Really I am in a pinch. I am not out of my league or in over my head. I have read the flipping manual and nothing zip zero zilch, I have tried everything in the book on this particular problem and nothing is working. I need to figure it out…Could my card be decklink extreme be faulty?
thanks

I am at my witts end. I am a pro able to edit schlock into beauty in a single day and I am baffeled. I have a less powerful system at my house and do not have issues. At present I am dubing DVCAM tape with (recently discovered) sketchy inconsistant time code to beta and I will try to capture from the beta deck.
I am really confused

I’ve never had to do that
