Can you go back to the firmware that worked? Not all updates are good, especially when running older OS versions. When you find the mixture that works, don’t change it. Only update if you have problems

Convert the footage you are working with to ProRes or other more friendly editing codec (DNxHD). H.264 is a tough beast to edit native, and 1080p60 H.264…that takes a LOT of system resources to decode on the fly, more than a MacBook Pro has to offer. So convert the footage to ProRes or DNxHD and edit that. You’ll notice a difference.

Image quality is exactly the same. CBR allows for INSERT EDITING with apps like CIneXInstert and others, so is better.

Careful with YouTubes. There are many people who will learn the software for the first time, do a couple things, and then post a video on “here’s how you use this software!” and the truth is they are doing it wrong, or are lacking many Basic steps. I recently saw one with a guy explaining how to edit a music video, and it was COMPLETELY bonkers what he was describing. At one point he even said, “I don’t know how the professionals in Nashville do it, but this is how I do it.” Has seasoned editors scratching their heads…so backwards.
So…be careful…make sure the tutorials are done by someone seasoned. I use all of the controls, the curves and wheels and others, as they each do slightly different things.

Why was Avid brought into this? Even colorist or online people who use it (and it’s mostly not by choice, but because of production chain) complain about Avid and rail against how antiquated it is. How useless it is anymore. Avid is not the standard for colorist tools to be held up to…its tools are really old and very limited, compared to Resolve or Baselight.

I wouldn’t. It’ll barely be able to deal with 1080p…no way will it handle 4K or UHD.

If you do this, do it with the PREMIERE PRO method of making proxies so they can relink back to the masters properly. Look up how to make proxies in the manual…. if you do it in another method, you risk not being able to link up properly.

You need to either obtain the full camera offload, untouched….do it the way you are doing it… or use something like Resolve to convert the footage.
