I have used similar with 4K/5K footage but using RED files.
Simple assembly and first light in REDCINE.
It survived a round of Resolve in HD timeline but I have faster workstations 90% of the time.
If this is your main system, I suggest you go a lot higher in speed.
I also work in Maya but that I stick with PCs.
I do use Maya 2018 on my new Mac Pro but for final renders I have to shoot it over to Windows.

I have used this exact model of MBPro to cut two feature films and grade two (other) features, as well as countless smaller form projects. The first feature was C300, the second was 4K Red RAW. Seamless playback and performance through the entire edit and color grade. I cut both in FCPX, which handles those formats much better than some other platforms. Graded both in DaVinci Resolve. The machine is definitely aging now, but if you can get it on the cheap, no reason to think it couldn’t handle the job.

Honestly, according to some tests it’s FASTER than the 2015, since the 2015 switched to AMD and the 2013 still ran NVIDIA with the GT750.

I compared a 2016 MBP to a 2013MBP, and prefered the 2013 and returned the 2016.

Great machine, I still work on it daily, it handles 1080p just fine, has graded 5 features (2 of them 4k, though RED not ProRes, 4k ProRes bogs down).

Considering getting an external GPU to keep it going I love it so much.
