  • Ah….apparently this was a bug in the early versions of 2019, make sure you are running 2019.9 and try going to workspace and reset the view back to source/record.

  • What computer are you using? Wondering if the graphics card has anything to do with this. Possibly not, but trying to think of anything. I haven’t heard of this issue before.

DNx36….meaning it’s ALREADY Avid media. IN this case, you put those files into the AvidMediaFiles folder>MXF>1…or 2…or empty numbered folder. Launch Avid…it’ll scan that folder. Then drag the .mdb file from that folder into a new bin.

Avid media can’t be linked to like camera masters or other media types. It has to be loaded this way, or with the Media tool

Yeah, sadly the assistants don’t get to sit in proximity anymore…they are relegated to working at night, or in a separate room. Learning how to edit on the job is a lot harder anymore.

October 8, 2019 at 5:36 pm in reply to: I phone footage

Well, what is the frame rate of the footage? Typically it’s 30fps, but being iPhone, it’s a VARIABLE rate, meaning it can be 26fps, or 32fps…or 30fps. Unpredictable. You can AMA link and see what it’s being reported as. But I’d start with a 1080p29.97 project…link, and if close to 30fps, then TRANSCODE to DNxHD 145 or 175 (I think 175 is the 30fps rate, and 145 is the 23.98).

[David Dean] “He’s not an Assistant Editor, because he has nothing to do with the actual cutting of the show”

Yes he is. EDITORS cut the show. Assistant often will add sound effects or music, but their main job is ingesting and prepping the footage for the edit. Syncing, organizing, outputting.

    So…

[David Dean] “it’s his job to make sure the multiclips are in sync with the production audio, break down the day’s shooting into scenes, and basically clean up the timelines so I can go right to work.”

…what you describe there are exactly the duties of an assistant editor. “Assistant to the Editors,” as you put it…makes him an ASSISTANT EDITOR.

Alas, no. They are saved as part of the user settings. I know your pain, it takes me nearly an hour to recreate my settings, I have SO many.

Sounds like corrupt user settings, which can happen. Make a new user and do all your modifications to the settings to get them back to your usual layout.

Does this affect machines without Media Composer installed?”

Yes. Many people with zero Avid software were affected. People with only Adobe software, or other graphics software. NOW I’m wondering if people without professional video software were affected..seems like the only outcry was in post, and mainly Avid.

[Oliver Peters] “What about the combination of the two should have resulted in this situation?”

Apparently some Google Chrome update caused this. I don’t use Chrome, so I dodged that one.

[Oliver Peters] “Obviously, if it were only Chrome-related, it would be a much more widespread issue. I realize that you have to disable the SIP, but is there more to it?”

Yeah, combo of Chrome and these softwares. Yeah, there’s more to it:
