Thank you very much for that. Saving money at this point is very important to me, this is why I asked if I can get away with a bit of entertainment value out such a big investment.

Running Premiere out of the Quadro was also a concern of mine. Since there is a good chance the 680 is around the corner I am going to get the bare minimum to run Premiere and Resolve for now, until the card is release. Having to save a bit of money at this stage will help me save up for an I/O card and monitor not too far down the line.

Not to spin this off into another topic, and without going into the details, here are my specs:

    Core i7 3930k
    ASUS P9X79 Delux mobo
    32Gb of Ram
250GB 7200 rpm SATA for OS ( Will upgrade to an SSD in the future).
2x 500GB 7200 rpm SATA on raid 0 running of the mobo’s raid control for Scratch disk and Page files.
    Areca ARC-1882I Raid card + x6 2TB drives configured to raid 6.
    1275W Power supply.
    Video is to be determined.

    Best,

    Yes, it goes without saying…

While I do appreciate the suggestion, recommending a PS3 absolutely has nothing to do with answering my specific question. And yes I wont be doing any professional work other than my own work, as I just started learning Resolve.

If I end up having issues, no biggie. My first and foremost intention is to have a work station.

Dont get me wrong it is a great system and good suggestion. The thing is, to me, a hand held controller is a terrible way to play first person shooter like MW3 and BF3 or strategy games like Starcraft 2, which is what I mostly like to play. Besides I rather put the extra cash on the computer 😉

Pretty cool. When you say slower, is this due to the type of source footage you are working or just how the GUI generally performs regardless of source footage resolution?

    “no more Gui card”

Wow, you think a Quadro card running the GUI wont be a necessity once the 680 comes out?

    Thank you.

I thought so. I am knew to the whole idea of running a Quadro and GeForce GPU on the same machine. Hopefully when I run games off the 580 the drivers wont freak out my machine. Will have to wait and see when I finally build the workstation end of the month.

My apologies if I was not clear. What I mean to ask is, would I be able to use my GTX 580 for gaming?

If my main monitor is connected to the Quadro, will games use the GTX 580 instead since games perform better on it?
