Anyone who wants to! It’s just another tool to add to the plethora…

  • Here’s something you might find interesting and perhaps you can adapt it to suit your needs – it uses a lot of effects 😉

  • If you don’t want to use any FXs…

You could transition to the ‘flash back clip(s)’ through white and make the ‘flash backs’ look like old-early footage by either reducing the colour saturation / adding noise / vignetting / etc – depending on how far back in time and/or the emotional connection of the ‘flash back’ to the subject.

Or you could use two black (dark orange/brown) solids and animate them to look like someone shutting their eyes and increasing blur to the ‘transition’ then fade to the ‘flash-back’ clip.

Or you could focus in on the subject’s face and fade to ‘flash-back’.

If you want to use audio to emphasize the fact that you are returning to the past… you could gradually add echo / reverb to the subject’s words that cue the flash-back…

Hope the ideas help – but, of course, there is no better way than to analyse what the pro’s do and adapt to your particular need…

A quick scan of the forum’s post has shows that the subject of vector format graphics has been touched on and generally it would seem that the best way forward would be to rasterize the ‘ai’ file to a png, tiff or psd file as these will support alpha transparency. In this case, it is probably best to save them at the largest size you will need for your project as bitmapped graphics don’t enlarge very well – unless ‘jaggies’ are what you’re after!

However, having said that… it is possible to use a vector ‘ai’ or ‘eps’ (version 8 or less) indirectly through a plugin like BorisFX Extruded EPS. Just make sure that the Extrusion Style in set to NONE, The Material Count is 1-Same on all sides and Front Material is set to Keep EPS Color.

I’m sure some of the more seasoned members of this forum have one or two tricks up their sleeves they could share ;))
