I believe I have worked out the problem.

Someone recently installed a lock widget so that if you are signed in you can lock your account without logging out.

It seems that everytime an account is locked and then unlocked with final cut open this problem occurs.

    Sorry to waste everyone’s time!

I just put it in final cut for test purposes to see what size final cut would say it was.

Why is there a different Display size? Surely if it’s real size is 1920×1080 it will just display it at 1920×1080?

    Thanks Zane,

I checked it out and it said Handbrake was OK but I guess not.

I just converted the quicktime to a Photo Jpg mov and also a DVC pro NTSC .mov and it does the same thing when I try to import it.

    Hi Dave,

Thanks very much. All works fine now. Turns out all the quicktimes were different in someway so had to go back and ask everyone to render again!

    Thanks Nicole,

It wouldn’t let me. I typed in a specific timecode to start at and all it did was start on the hour that I typed!!!

Also when I exported the quicktime, without using compressor, the time code I added was not burnt in on the final quicktime. It just wasn’t there!!! I could see it in the final cut monitor, but not on the final quicktime!!!

I just read that you can add timecode using compressor when you make a quicktime, instead of adding timecode in final cut.

Does anyone know if this is true?

If so, which way would you recommend?

Thanks very much for responding Bob,

I thought it might be possible as you said in your article, “(I should mention that I’ve set up systems using Macs and FCP, but everything I’m talking about here works with Mac and PC, and often both together.)” so I thought I might be able to get a PC to act as the server. Our company is PC based, Editorial has the only 2 Macs in the building, the two macs our connected to the internal server via ethernet, this is not fast enough to playback the uncompressed quicktimes I work with so I copy everything to the Disc Arrays.

I have no problems getting my hands on a PC, the company has a lot that aren’t being used.

So I need to get a mac pro, a multi port fibre channel card, a managed switch, and management software and it should work? As I have never done this myself before and am responsible for it, I want to make sure I get it right with as few headaches as possible, although I understand it will involve some.

I don’t know why I have two Fibre Disc Arrays and no server, I don’t hold the purse strings.

Thanks Again for your time Bob.
