Hey Guys,

Thanks for the help here. As I understand it, any new D5 deck will record straight across PAL to PAL staying in 709 color space. But we would have to use a Teranex to covert it, if we wanted 24 NTSC.

Depending on the deck, a newer D5 deck IS capable of playing 25fs at 24fs and 23.98, BUT NOT 30fs. I guess this a “math thing” or maybe it because the deck would actually have to create frames.

Note that frame rate change would cause the audio to slip by 4%, changing the pitch. Would the pitch would be lower?

IMHO,

My big guess is that the camera was using component cables to the deck and one of the cables was loose or bad.

If the red cable was shot, it would make everyone look green.

BUT, The fact that the bars are ok, is strange… hummm…

Maybe look into something with a faster refresh rate than “8 ms refresh rate” I think there are 6.4ms?? could be wrong here.. But your doing video, so you want something as fast as you can get.

And also think about if you want to DVI or ADC outputs..

Its kind of dumb, but I do not think those MAC machines have dual DVI outputs.. I guess they expect you to use 1 big cinema display..
Not a bad idea, just expensive.. But if your dropping 1,000 for two monitors. Maybe think about getting just one big one(that will play HD) used(ebay) for 1,600.. (I myself am using one monitor with DVI input and one ADC..I keep the DVI on the right for the video window, but really I can’t tell much diference between the two.)

Also as “everyone” will tell you, you need a Sony Broadcast monitor.. Or a high end “self-calibriting” computer monitor for color.

Thanks so much for reminding me! Square pixels. I thought HDCAM would be non-square. Thats only DVCAM at .9 x 1 huh? Do you have any resorces for explaining progressive and interlaced wookflow? If you are coming form 35m should you always stay in progressive? Do Barco projecters display in Progress?
