  • just so its documented. In the inspector tab you can do this on a clip by clip basis by going to inspector/retime and scaling then clicking the “scaling” dropdown menu and selecting “crop”.. there’s probably a way to assign it to a hotkey for expediency. to have it happen globally for every clip, go to project settings and under image scaling/input scaling preset select “center crop with no resizing”

FIGURED IT OUT.. In deliver page Export DPX’s as individual source clips with handles under save as select “use source filename” scroll down and select select “commercial workflow” then select “place clips in seperate folders”. you may want to enable flat pass and disable sizing as well, remove all output blanking so you get full aperture on your export. after it all renders delete your original media from the master bin on the media page then import your new DPX folder. now open timeline everything’s reconnected to the new footage. PRAISE THE LORD!!!

thanks for the advice. actually we are supposed to export dpx degrain, import grade then export again and regrain. This is what the producers want and apparently the workflow has to stay DPX all the way through.. The biggest issue Im having now is how do I roundtrip? ive taken care of the nested timeline confusion by decomposing in place so now how do I export this timeline as individual source clip Dpx’s with handles run them through this dark energy software and then get them back recconected to my timeline in resolve? essentially what I need to do is like the FCP roundtrip preset but for DPX’s instead of MOV’s. Any suggestions?

just discover decompose in place replaces any inspector settings like sizing which sucks!

Update: after reading up I discovered “Decompose in place” which replaces the nest with the original media. Now I have a “normal” sequence should have no issues conforming now. Carry on…

Please, everyone go to Adobe and voice your opinion on this. I’ve been submitting this request since CS5.. We had it in FCP7 and it saved my butt on many occasions. This is especially needed now because of 4k. Thanks!

Is that your reel!? My God Amazing stuff! Grades are absolutely beautiful.. If you dont mind me asking was the outdoor stuff at the beginning shot in a studio or was it actually filmed in daylight? Reason I ask is we shoot outdoors on a red epic with master primes frequently and have never came close to this level of color depth and crispness. We rarely have budget for a lighting crew so we usually have to get creative with available sunlight and whiteboards. Is it just incredible lighting or was this look more generated in post with the grade? or is it both?
