Do reality TV editors still get paid slave wages? Or has that changed?

I don’t know the answer to your question. But what I can tell you is that you always have the option to change your source TC any time during the workflow. Highlight your clips, select “Modify -> Timecode” and change it to match the film scan TC (assuming it’s different). Doing this does not alter any editing you’ve done on any sequences within the open project.

[Kathy Chatham] “Trying to edit a music video shot on DVCPRO HD. During the shoot the music was played back for singers using a computer and only the camera mics where used to record audio. I imported the footage into FCP and converted the emailed mp3 audio to 48KHz using iTunes thinking this will solve any sample rate issues”

That sounds like a disaster, I hate to say. The problem could be coming from anywhere. Ask them to send you a WAV without making an MP3 first. Don’t convert it and just put it in your sequence. And make sure they gave you the right cut of the song.

[Kathy Chatham] “Also, not knowing at first, I imported the footage in a drop frame project originally. If I open a new project, change the sequence setting to non-drop frame can I just import the QT files on my hard-drive into that new project or will I need to re-capture my original footage to have a non-drop frame project?”

None of that matters. Drop/Non-Drop is just a timecode format. Has nothing to do with playback speed.

You gotta use Soundtrack. It’s pretty easy though.

  • If you still haven’t solved it, consider my earlier reply. Go into your Device Control Presets and try some different options. One option in the AJA Sony Preset is “Default Timecode” which is set to non-drop by default. Maybe change this to drop.

  • This is probably an issue with RS422 Device Control settings. There are a bunch of options. Try a different one.

    Try this:

  • [Joe Schwartz] “When I try and copy the clips from the NTSC sequence and try to paste them in a new 720 sequence, the playback in the canvas is shrunk and does not fill the entire window and I get a green render bar.”

[Sean ONeil] “and remove the Motion and distort attributes.”

I see these questions a lot here. ALL BD drives are Mac compatible. Every single one. So I’m sure it will work fine.

A Mac Pro can use either of the two connector types. A G5 may require a cheap adapter (which usually comes with the drive anyways).

[Dan Hayes] “Is the Rorke system overkill? “

It’s beyond overkill. Using FC for non-shared use is ridiculous. The Dulce is beyond fast enough for uncompressed HD. And later on you can replace the eight 1TB drives with eight 4TB when they come out next week…. okay maybe not next week but probably next year.

Something else you may not be aware of. 1TB drives are generally a lot faster than 500GB drives. So the Dulce could end up being just as fast.
