Back in 1997 on Media 100 version 5, it drew the waveform once and then that was it. It never slowed down the system. In fact you couldn’t even turn off the waveform, not that you’d ever want to.

Mitch is correct. Lot’s of people have had problems with 6.0 (myself included). I would wait for 6.1.

I guess you could buy a solid state disk and set your waveform cache to it. Other than that I don’t think there’s much you can do. This is just one of the many daunting issues that show Final Cut’s age and it’s desperate need for a total re-write.

I think all the newest models have a complete 180 degree viewing angle. I’m looking at one right now and it’s viewable from any angle.

Good point. I think it depends on many factors as to which is best. How many timecode breaks the tapes have, if the audio was recorded separately, etc.

TVs and computer monitors are basically the same thing now since most big TVs are 1920×1080 resolution. I have a large desk, and it sits about 3 feet away from me, on a stand that elevates it about 8 inches. It is the greatest computer monitor setup I’ve ever used. It’s better for your eyes and better for your posture. I cannot stress this enough. Every creative professional who steps foot in our office is blown away and says “Why aren’t I doing that?” Clients love it too.
All you need is a cheap DVI to HDMI cable or adapter. And you want to turn the sharpness all the way down or else your fonts will look messed up.
I first saw this in a sound mixing studio near MTV Santa Monica where our Pro Tools guy works. They were actually using 50″ plasmas!

I just got a Samsung 37″ today for a desktop monitor. $1099 at Best Buy.
