I second this. You do NOT want to edit 24-based footage at 29.97. It destroys the 3:2 cadence. Even if you’re ready to finish, there could be a tweak here or there, you may need to output a video for the web – who knows. As long as the video lives on a computer, it should be 23.98.

The process you’re looking for is called “re-wrapping” – you want to re-wrap the HDV codec from Quicktime to m2t. Cineform has a tool that can do this, but I think it only does QT to avi (not m2t) but there may be some Windows tool that does avi to m2t.
There’s another tool (forgot the name) that’s new and supports m2t – but it only works with MPEG2, not AVCHD.

Not sure where AJA said this, but video output settings are stored in their own files, which in turn are used in Easy Setup files. They have nothing to do with project data.

I don’t think saved project data has anything to do with the video output setting.

In the FCP Browser you can manually set a clip to be upper field, lower field, or none. Set your to none before you place it on a timeline and it will no longer be interlaced.

It’s complicated. There is a guy named Andreas Keil (sperico.com) who specializes in this stuff.
If you want to take it on yourself… File Maker can import .csv files. You could write scripts to import the XML in Excel, format it, output a CSV, and import that into File Maker. Have fun.

Thanks a million. I assumed that it would always render best quality when exporting it or sending it back to Final Cut. In fact even at “best”, sending it to Final Cut is no good. But if I export it to a QT from Motion with “best” turned on then it works.
